Biography

Blue Hors Purple Rain is a modern young dressage stallion combining exceptional movement, rideability and one of the most exciting Dutch performance pedigrees in contemporary breeding. Born in 2020, the elegant black stallion is by the international Grand Prix stallion Desperado N.O.P., a son of the influential sire Vivaldi, and is out of the mare Iana V.O.D. by Negro. This powerful pedigree blends several of the most proven bloodlines in modern dressage breeding, including Vivaldi, Negro and Jazz, producing a stallion admired for his elastic movement, uphill balance and trainable temperament. Standing approximately 168 cm, Purple Rain combines an elegant frame with powerful hind-leg engagement and natural self-carriage—qualities highly valued in modern sport horse breeding. His damline is particularly distinguished. Iana V.O.D. is a full sister to the double World Champion stallion Kjento and a half sister to the licensed stallion Mowgli V.O.D., and she herself passed an excellent IBOP test. The family consistently produces top sport horses and breeding stallions, including the small tour horses Evita (Tuschinski), Zidana (Krack C), Uno (Jazz) and Rhapsody (Lancet). From the same high-performance damline also come the approved stallions Lance and The Onyx's, confirming the strength and reliability of this exceptional maternal family. Purple Rain’s sire Desperado N.O.P. has enjoyed major success both in sport and breeding. Ridden by Dutch international rider Emmelie Scholtens, Desperado won multiple World Cup qualification events and championship medals while also establishing himself as a leading sire. He has produced more than 20 licensed sons and several Grand Prix horses, including the stallion Asgard's Ibiza and the international Grand Prix horse Jane, ridden by Alice Tarjan. His damline has also produced numerous licensed stallions and successful sport horses. Purple Rain himself has already impressed judges and riders alike with his natural athleticism and trainability. The KWPN Research Report 2023 describes him as an elegant, light-footed stallion with an excellent work ethic and a cooperative character. His walk is pure and ground-covering, the trot shows strong impulsion with expressive foreleg technique and an active hindleg stepping well underneath the body, while his canter is balanced, powerful and uphill. Across all three gaits he demonstrates elasticity, flexibility and natural self-carriage, giving his rider an excellent feeling under saddle.
