Biography

Blue Hors Santiano is a picture-perfect modern dressage stallion who combines exceptional athletic ability with some of the most influential bloodlines in contemporary breeding. Bred in Denmark by Straight Horse and purchased as a foal by Blue Hors breeders Eva Götzche and Mogens Pedersen, Santiano immediately stood out for his elegant type, expressive movement and outstanding rideability. His dam, Romanik, comes from an exceptional damline that has produced several highly awarded mares and approved stallions, contributing greatly to Santiano’s strong genetic foundation. His first crop of foals has already confirmed this quality, producing several champion foals and auction highlights. Santiano further demonstrated his exceptional talent during his 21-day performance test with the KWPN in 2020, where he placed third overall with 87.5 points, including scores of 8 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 9.5 for canter, 8.5 for suppleness, and 9 for self-carriage, rideability and capacity. The official research report described him as a balanced, reliable and sympathetic stallion with a strong work ethic, excellent posture and great flexibility. Judges highlighted his pure, active walk, a cadenced trot with good scope and balance, and an uphill canter with powerful impulsion and natural ability to collect. These qualities translated into success in the Dutch Stallion Competition in 2022, where he achieved top marks including 8 for walk, 9 for trot, 9.5 for canter and 9 for rideability, while covering nearly 400 mares during the same season. Santiano’s pedigree represents the very best of Danish dressage breeding. He is by the legendary Sezuan, the triple World Champion for Young Dressage Horses and one of the most influential sires of modern sport horses. Sezuan is himself a son of the Olympic stallion Blue Hors Zack, who competed at the highest level internationally including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Santiano is also linebred to the legendary Danish sire Don Schufro, who helped Denmark win team bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and whose daughters have played a major role in modern dressage breeding. The damline behind Santiano is particularly impressive. Romanik is not only the dam of Santiano but also of the Grand Prix mare Zackonik and the stallion Straight Horse Sir Romance. She is the grandmother of the gold-medal mare Straight Horse De Milla, a finalist at the World Championships for Young Horses, and the dam of Santiano’s full brother Straight Horse Sezarion, who is progressing toward an international sport career with rider Alejandro Asencio Mendez. This family consistently produces successful sport horses and breeding stallions across multiple European studbooks.
