Biography
Blue Hors St. Schufro has established himself as one of the most exciting modern dressage stallions, combining elite sport performance with exceptional breeding potential. The striking black stallion, born in 2011, is by St. Moritz Junior and out of a daughter of the legendary Blue Hors Don Schufro, bringing together two of the most influential dressage bloodlines of the modern era. Standing approximately 170 cm, St. Schufro is admired for his powerful yet elastic movement, natural uphill balance and outstanding rideability—qualities that have defined both his sport career and his success as a breeding stallion. His career began with remarkable success in the young stallion championships. In 2013 he was named Premium Stallion at the Hanoverian licensing, followed by victory as Champion of the Danish 35-day performance test in 2014. The following year he was crowned Champion 4-Year-Old Stallion at the Danish Warmblood licensing in Herning, confirming his status as one of the most promising young dressage stallions of his generation. Since 2018 he has been partnered with Danish international rider Nanna Skodborg Merrald, with whom he has achieved outstanding results in both national and international competitions. Together they have progressed successfully through the levels, achieving strong results in MA, Prix St. Georges, Intermediaire I and II, before advancing to the Grand Prix level where they continue to impress with expressive movements and harmonious performances. Beyond his success in sport, St. Schufro is highly valued as a breeding stallion. He is particularly well suited to tall, well-framed mares with a strong front and correct conformation, to which he consistently adds expressive movement, powerful hind-leg activity and exceptional rideability. His offspring inherit his captivating mechanics, elasticity and willingness to work, making them highly sought after for both competition and breeding. As a partner in the arena, St. Schufro is equally admired for his temperament and character. His rider describes him as a stallion with a rare combination of power, intelligence and kindness: “Working with Blue Hors St. Schufro every day is truly a pleasure. He has an amazing work ethic and endless talent, but what really stands out to me is how deeply he connects with me as his rider. He’s by far the sweetest and easiest stallion to handle, yet when we’re training, he shows incredible power and a real eagerness to give his best. He just has this wonderful combination of focus, kindness, and energy that makes every session so enjoyable. It’s impossible not to smile when you’re working with a stallion like him.” — Nanna Skodborg Merrald With his proven pedigree, international sport success and growing list of talented offspring, Blue Hors St. Schufro continues to cement his reputation as a modern dressage stallion capable of influencing the next generation of elite sport horses.
