What is HorseLight?

HorseLight provides equine lighting systems designed to support carefully managed light exposure in stables.

Its systems use blue-enriched white LED light and automatic controls to manage lighting programmes. The HorseLight Advanced system also includes a red night light.

Light plays an important role in horses’ natural body clocks and seasonal reproductive rhythms. Managing light exposure offers an additional consideration for owners and stud managers reviewing their stable environment and breeding routines.

Our Experience at Stallion AI Services

We’ve been using HorseLight in our stables throughout the summer, and it has become part of our daily routine.

Our team has noticed how calm and settled the stallions appear in their stables. We’re continuing to build our experience with the lights and monitor our observations.

For us, investing in the stable environment is part of a wider approach to horse care, alongside established routines, experienced staff and careful attention to each stallion’s needs.

The Research Behind Equine Lighting

Research into controlled lighting programmes has produced encouraging findings for breeding stallions.

A study involving 22 sport horse stallions compared an extended programme of blue-enriched white light by day and dim red light at night with a control lighting programme. The treated stallions had higher average testosterone levels between December and April.

The researchers also recorded higher semen volumes when comparing the treated stallions with their own historical records. Evidence for an increase in total sperm number was less conclusive.

The study evaluated a specific lighting programme rather than HorseLight itself. These findings do not establish that HorseLight will improve semen quality or fertility, and results may vary between horses.
